JUNIOR LIFEGUARD PROGRAM
SUMMER 2018
GENERAL INFORMATION
This course will familiarize participants with ocean safety and beach rescue skills. Topics include
an introduction to water safety, first aid, CPR and surf rescue techniques with an emphasis on beach
and ocean awareness.
ELIGIBILITY
Open to male and female applicants ages 12-17. Applicants must have swimming skills and be able
to swim for 100 yards continuously with 100% effort. This is NOT a learn-to-swim program.
Qualifying swims will be held on the first day (registration day).
REGISTRATION INFORMATION & SESSION SCHEDULE
o This program is FREE to all registered participants
o Parent or guardian must be present to sign waiver form at time of registration.
o Registration is on a first come, first serve basis or sign up online at
https://bigislandjrlifeguards.surfsignup.com from May 1, 2018
o Limit of 30 students per session. However, limit may be adjusted based on instructor availability
For East Hawai'i:
HILO: Registration to be held at Richardson’s Ocean Park on the first day of each session
PUNA: Registration to be held at Ahalanui Beach Park on the first day of each session
KAU : Registration to be held at Punalu’u Beach Park on the first day of each session
SESSION 1: June 18 thru June 22, 9:00am - 1:00pm
SESSION 2: June 25 thru June 29, 9:00am - 1:00pm
SESSION 3: July 9 thru July 13, 9:00am - 1:00pm
SESSION 4: July 16 thru July 20, 9:00am - 1:00pm
