<br />CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY Date: June 6, 2018 <br />MEDIA UPDATE Time: 4:15 PM <br /> <br /> <br />Incident: East Rift Zone Eruption – 5.6 Earthquake/No Tsunami Threat, WED, 6/6, <br />4:10 PM <br /> <br />This is a Civil Defense message Wednesday, June 6 at 4:15 p.m. <br />The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports the earthquake that occurred at approximately <br />4:10 p.m. was NOT large enough to cause a tsunami for the Island of Hawaii. There is NO <br />tsunami threat for the island of Hawaii. <br />Preliminary data indicates that the earthquake measuring a magnitude of 5.6 was centered at <br />the Kilauea Summit. <br />As in all earthquakes, be aware of the possibility of aftershocks. If the earthquake was <br />strongly felt in your area, precautionary checks should be made for any damages; especially to <br />utility connections of gas, water and electricity. <br />ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An ash plume has been detected traveling to the southwest. <br />Avoid ash by staying indoors. <br />Again, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports the earthquake that occurred at <br />approximately 4:10 p.m. was NOT large enough to cause a tsunami for the island of <br />Hawaii. NO tsunami threat. <br />If any additional information becomes available, you will be notified. <br /> <br /> <br />CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY Date: June 6, 2018 <br />MEDIA UPDATE Time: 4:30 PM <br /> <br /> <br />Incident: Halemaumau Ash Eruption <br /> <br />This is a Civil Defense Message for Wednesday, June 6 at 4:30 in the evening. <br /> <br />Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports that an ash eruption at the Kilauea Summit occurred at about <br />4:10 PM. The resulting ash plume reached 10,000 feet high and may affect the surrounding areas. <br />The wind is blowing in the southwest direction and ash fallout may affect the areas of Volcano and <br />Pahala. Please be on the alert. <br /> <br />Due to the volcanic activity, the following is provided for your awareness: <br /> If you are at home, stay indoors with the windows closed. If you are outside, seek cover. <br /> <br />
