<br />CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY DATE: June 17, 2018 <br />MEDIA UPDATE TIME: 4:30 pm <br /> UPDATE: #3 <br /> <br />Incident: East Rift Zone Eruption <br /> <br />This is a Civil Defense Message for Sunday, June 17 at 4:30 pm. <br />Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports Fissure 8 continues to be very active with a fast <br />moving channel flowing into the ocean at Kapoho Bay. It is producing a large laze <br />plume. An ash eruption this morning at the Kilauea Summit potentially sent ash blowing <br />toward the southwest which affects people in the Volcano and Kau areas. <br />The following advice is provided for your information: <br /> Continue to be on the alert for air quality conditions around you <br /> If you are at home, stay inside with your windows closed. If you are outside seek <br />shelter. <br /> After the ash fall has ended, check your home and especially your catchment <br />system for any impact that may affect water quality. <br /> <br />On the Leilani Eruption: <br /> 5,914 acres or nine and a quarter square miles of land has now been impacted. <br /> 533 homes have been destroyed. <br /> <br />Numerous resources are available to residents of Hawai‘i County who suffered damage <br />or losses from the Kilauea volcanic eruption and recent earthquakes: <br /> A Disaster Recovery Center or DRC, is open daily from 8am to 9pm, and is located <br />at the Keaau High School Gym. <br /> This Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, free medical, dental and eye care will be <br />available at “Tropic Care 2018” at Kea’au High School.
