<br />HI County LEPC Meeting Minutes <br />County Building Puna Conference Room <br />March 8, 2018 10:00am <br /> <br />Members Present: Gerald Kosaki, Chair; John Peard, DOH HEER; Ron Quesada, PGV; Newton <br />Inouye, Civilian Representative; Tracy Aruga, Hilo Medical Center; David Cummings, Hamakua <br />Energy; Eric Honda, DOH Environmental Health. Non-Members: Sharon Leonida, <br />DOH-HEER <br />I. Call to Order <br />Meeting called to order at 10:10 am by Chair Gerald Kosaki. <br />II. Minutes <br />Approval of the September 12, 2017 meeting minutes. Minutes was approved as circulated. <br />Chair Kosaki to post minutes of the meeting on the county website. <br />III. Continuing Challenge Recap <br /> <br />There were four personnel from HFD who attended. Mike Uchida reported for the 4 HFD <br />personnel who attended this training conference. Mike brought up some concerns about getting <br />approval earlier for class selection and to catch an earlier flight due to the time change. John <br />Peard inquired about the sensors being discontinued and concerns about the capabilities of the <br />hazmat team and Sharon inquired about the life span of the equipment. Their reports were <br />circulated and will be posted on the LEPC website. <br />IV. County Reports <br /> <br />1. Fire/Hazmat – <br />a. Colin Hashiro from Hawaii Gas attended the meeting and spoke about the <br />propane tanker truck that overturned in Honomu. There were a few questions <br />about the product in the tank and where it was leaking. The report to HIOSH <br />was completed and the case is now considered closed. <br />b. Mike Uchida spoke about the incident at South Point green sands that involved a <br />55 gallon drum of a corrosive material that was leaking that was reported by a <br />fisherman. The incident was mitigated by putting the drum in an over packing <br />container and HEER was notified. <br />2. Dept. of Ag – Cal Westergard stated that there was a tabletop exercise here on the big <br />th <br />island on Nov. 7 and they are planning a full scale exercise in 2018. <br />V. Industry Partners Report <br /> <br />1. Media – Chris Leonard stated that he is still trying to get the state plan revised and <br />updated. He gave several examples of the breakdown in communications to the public <br />and spoke about possible solutions. Lots of good information. <br />VI. State of Hawaii <br /> <br />
