Re: Civil Defense Funding
Chair Haitsuka and Members of the Hawai‘i County Charter Commission,
During the September 11, 2009 meeting of the Charter Commission, I was tasked with
finding out who funds our Hawai‘i County Civil Defense department.
According to the current budget, Civil Defense is funded by three sources: county funds,
state grants, and federal grants. Some federal grants may not show up as such because they are
first disbursed to the state then to the counties.
