RE: Additional Public Hearings and Special Meetings of the Charter Commission

Members of the Hawai‘i County Charter Commission,
This communication is to open discussion on the possibility of scheduling additional Public
Hearings and Special meetings of the Hawai‘i County Charter Commission.
The Commission has fulfilled its obligation pursuant to the 2009-2010 Hawai‘i County Charter
Commission’s Rules of Procedure I. MEETINGS AND QUORUM:
(e) Public Hearings. The Commission is required to conduct six
public hearings in the geographical areas of Puna, Ka‘, Kona,
Kohala, H m kua, and Hilo. The Commission shall give public
notice to inform the public of the time, place, and subject matter
of the public hearing.
However, at the time of the Public Hearings only proposals CA-1 through CA-9 were available
for review by the public. There may be a necessity to schedule additional Public Hearings to
give the public the opportunity to comment on all of the proposed Charter Amendments.
There may also be a need to schedule Special Meetings of the Charter Commission to conduct
business to meet deadlines and requirements.
(c) Special Meetings. Special meetings may be called by the Chairperson or by a
majority of the Commission
