HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM. 119 Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce TO: Hawai’i County Charter Commission Edmund Haitsuka, Chairman RE: Charter Amendments DATE: December 18, 2009 My name is Vivian Landrum, President/CEO of the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce (KKCC). KKCC represents over 550 business members and is the leading business advocacy organization on the west side of Hawai`i Island. KKCC also actively works to enhance the environment, unique lifestyle and quality of life in West Hawai`i for both residents and visitor alike. We would like to offer our comments on several items before the Charter Commission which are in discussion. It is our belief that any changes made to the Hawai’i County Charter should be engineered to create a more streamlined and efficient government system. Not create a more burdensome, redundant and perplexing system which hinders progress and taxes the budget. In that regard we support CA-18, Four Year Council Terms and CA-25, Community Development Plans. We do not support CA-19, Office of Council Services. We would like to invite members of the Commission to address our Government Affairs Committee to help keep us better informed on the issues currently before them. It is important to keep the public apprised of the activity taking place and we would appreciate hearing directly from you so we can in turn share with our membership in a factual manner. We would be happy to work with you to schedule a time that is convenient to both groups. Please contact me at your earliest convenience to discuss further. Mahalo for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Vivian Landrum President/CEO
