HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM. 154 Kurokara, B - Land FundJanuary 20, 2010 Iam fully in support of reinstituting the 2% fund as was voted in by our community. If one takes the long view based on a sustainable quality of life for our community, one comes to the conclusion that our FINITE land base and treasured wahi pana (sacred and special places) here on our island is worth preserving and protecting for generations. Like saving and investing for one's personal future during up and down economic times, the same strategy applies for our community and its livability by investing and leveraging a small but meaningful percentage of property taxes towards preservation of these sacred lands for current and future generations. It is imperative that we act from this value base rather than the short term perspective i.e. budget crisis based on a fluctuating economy and likely flawed market economy. Remember the Hawaiian proverb: "The Land is Chief." If our political representatives and commissioners are in any doubt as to what was passed the first time, please at least let the voters decide, AGAIN! And this time, follow through and institute the community's voice. Mahalo nui loa! Brad Kurokawa PO Box 402 Honomu, HI 96728 756-7442 -- Brad Kurokawa P.O.
