Re: Land Fund
To Our County Commissioners,
Aloha and mahalo for your time.
I am sending this to you requesting that you reinstate the
2% Land Fund for our island. We need to have this money to
purchase lands to keep the peace, space, and healthy
lifestyle that exists now for us all.
We can see, from examples of the other islands and places
on the mainland where every bit of land available is filled
with human habitation or industry, how it pits humans
against each other for the remaining sparse resources.
Every holiday those precious spots of preserved space are
filled to capacity with people needing a place to just be.
We needn't go that route to learn the lesson.
I grew up in Colorado where we have many national parks and
city parks and open space preserved for nature and enjoying
that nature. You can go fishing without feeling crowded.
You can go biking without risking life and limb due to the
car free bike paths, etc. It's a great state to recreate
and it's because the lands were set aside for such purposes
over a hundred years ago. As a result of their foresight,
the open space of Colorado is currently a great source of
income for the entire state from the tourists and
ecotourism opportunities. Those leaders knew the value of
open land.
I hope you do also.
Again, mahalo for your time and please vote with your heart
and for generations to come.
