Dear Commissioners Haitsuka, Kaulukukui, Kawauchi, Kealoha, and Osborne,
Thank you for agreeing to reinstate the 2% into the proposed charter amendment
to give the people the opportunity to vote again on this important matter. As
Sammie Stanbro testified so elooquently on January 21, 2010, a survey was
undertaken by the Trust for Public Land in 2005 at the cost of thousands of
dollars, that showed that the people of this island want to commit 2% of property
tax revenues for land acquisition, not 1/2% or 1%. That is why we, the Save Our
Lands Citizens' Committee, undertook the "2% for Land" initiative campaign in
2006, which 63% of the voters approved in the general election. Thank you for
honoring the thousands of voters who supported this initiative and please ask
your fellow commissioners to do the same.
