HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM. 211 Aden, D - Land FundFebruary 11, 2010 Dear Commissioners Chair Haitsuka, Guy Kaulukukui, Jamae Kawauchi, Joseph Kealoha, Susie Osborne: Thank you for your YES vote on the 2% Land Fund. As I resident of Hawaii county I also voted FOR this measure when it was on the ballot some years ago. Thank YOU all for hearing the voice of your fellow Hawaiians and voting with US! Dear Commissioners: Todd Shumway, Scott Unger, David Fuertes, Daphne Honma, Casey Jarman and Alapaki Nahale-A: As I resident of Hawaii county I also voted FOR 2% Land Fund when it was on the ballot some years ago. As did a majority of our citizenry. I am disappointed and saddened the think that you our commissioners would consider amending or changing the 2% amount in any way! Our Mayor has much to answer for his meddling with the voice of his people! As a concerned Resident of Hawaii County I ask you to: - Reinstate the 2% amount. - PUT THE 2% LAND FUND BACK ON THE BALLOT and let the VOTERS DECIDE! - Seek dollar-for -dollar matching funds to double the money in the fund to maximize land conservation. - The land fund should be an interest bearing account. AND that deposits should be made after property taxes are collected twice per year so more funds are available and interest can accrue. - The Land fund should be used for acquisition ONLY and NOT for maintenance OR development of parks. - IF the 2% tax set aside is used to pay the debt on an Open Space Bond, that the bond should not be part of an aggregate bond issue, so that citizens can watchdog how the fund is used to pay fees, commissions and other bond expenses. Thank you for your time: I will be looking forward to a YES vote from your this week. Mahalo and Cheers, David Aden Pahoa
