HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM. 238 Fucik, R - Land Fund Subject: 2% means 2% , not 1%, not 1/2% Aloha Hawaii County Managers, We, the electorate, voted for a 2% land fund. It passed. It is law. You, the county administration, commission or council do not have the prerogative to ignore our vote. Your are in contempt of the electorate. You are not above the law, we citizens elect and pay your salary. If you wish for us to file suit against our elected officials, we will. If an ordinance is not enforce full enough for you to obey, then yes, lets also have a charter amendment. It should be offered at 2%, just like we voted. Meanwhile the ordinance applies. Failure to comply is not excusable due to budget shortfall. The administration and council has known of the budget problems for over a year now and has done little to reduce county spending. The county still remains overstaffed with no oversight or accountability for lack of accomplishments. I frequently see county vehicles at retail outlets. family members included on obviously non-official business. We pay absorbent prices for purchases. Projects take infinitely long to get completed (aka after a year, Palani road still has utility poles in the middle of the new pavement, traffic signals not yet operative). We award contracts to county employees, family and close friends, no-disclosure needed. With proactive management it would be easy to reduce county expenditures by at least 30% or more and achieve improved performance. The 2% for the land fund would leave plenty of room for a tax reduction for us overburdened voters. Don't even think about a tax increase, we are not going to pay for your lack of action. Kudos for those council persons that have recognized and attempted to initiate spending reform, namely: Yagong, Ford and sometimes Hoffmann. Richard Fucik Kalaoa Hawaii
