R.B. Legaspi ; -' / Yasuki Arakaki
COUNTY CLERK4Te—C F DEPUTY COUNTY CLERK
OFFICE OF THE COUNTY CLERK
ELECTION DIVISION
25 AUPUNI STREET
HILO, HAWAII 96720
October 26, 1979
Mr. Jack Konno, Director
Hawaii Division
United Public Works
1289-G Kilauea Avenue
Hilo, Hawaii 96720
Thank you for reconsidering your previous recommendation requesting the postponement
of the Special Charter Electionscheduled for November 3, 1979. We believe that your
decision will now enhance the successful management of a very important election.
We do wish at this time to discuss several situations to preclude potential misunder-
standings and most importantly, to us would mean whether we can conduct the elections.
These circumstances are as follows:
•
1. Would you permit UPW members now assigned as precinct officials, control
center workers, computer center personnel or drivers to continue in such
positions?
2. Would you permit UPW custodians to open the polls, set up the voting booths
and clean up after the election?
3. Would you permit the installation of telephones at the polls and the removal
of same after the election by Hawaiian Telephone Company? Will permits be
necessary?
4. Would you permit us to pick up election equipment from polling places to
return to Schultz Siding and the County Building after the election, a
process that would take about two weeks? Would permits be necessary?
We would appreciate your comments, as without your assistance in these areas, we
doubt whether the election can be held.
Again, we thank you for cooperation and we trust that we can mutually resolve these
matters and conduct a successful and important Charter Election.
