Due to deployments and other circumstances, the National Guard does not have any more Public Affairs Officers available to run the media tours, which have been offered daily to ensure safe media access since May, when the eruption began. “We are very grateful to the National Guard for providing this service all this time,” said Mayor Harry Kim. “We understand that the Guard have to fulfill their missions, and we appreciate the great cooperation we continue to have.” Future media tours will be conducted on a limited basis by Civil Defense, with details to be announced.
