<br />CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY <br />MEDIA UPDATE Date: August 8, 2018 <br /> Time: 1300 <br /> Radio Frequency: <br /> Update: 1 <br /> <br />Incident: Keauhou Ranch Fire <br />This is a Civil Defense wildland fire update for Wednesday, August 8 at 1:00 in the <br />afternoon. <br /> <br />The National Park Service reports that the Keauhou Ranch Fire on Mauna Loa, which is <br />mainly within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, continues to burn in multiple locations <br />and is two miles north of Highway 11. The fire more than doubled in size overnight and <br />is now 3,205 acres. No structures are threatened at this time. Hawaii County, State <br />Division of Forestry and Wildlife, and volunteer firefighters are all assisting the National <br />Park Service in their fire suppression effort. <br /> <br />Mauna Loa Road inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has been closed to the public <br />since May 11. <br /> <br />Please drive carefully on Highway 11 as smoke may impact driving conditions. <br /> <br />We are on watch 24-hours a day for your safety. <br />This is your Hawai‘i County Civil Defense Agency. <br />
