Both were previously working as CSE Community Service Worker I positions; Reyn in Hilo and Kalehua in Kona. CSE Hilo welcomes two new Community Service Worker I’s In September, Winifred “Winnie” Morikami and Joni Wah Yick started work in the Hilo District office as the newly hired Community Service Worker I’s. Both are looking forward to servicing our seniors in the community. CSE bids a fond Aloha and Mahalo to Angie Onaka for her 19 years of service. She has helped many of our Kupuna over the years and will be missed by many. We wish her the best of luck on her new journey! Berni Urban for her contribution to the Elderly Activities Division.  Her willingness to help our Kupuna will surely be missed. Best of luck on your new endeavor! Elderly Activities Division I&A District Team Meetings Elderly Activities Division (EAD) held it’s I&A Team District Meetings on July 17 in Hilo and on July 18 in Kona for the RSVP Council Representatives, EAD Senior Clubs and Nutrition Council Presidents. The EAD I&A Team District Meetings in July provide program information and upcoming July to December informational activity and event flyers. Senior representatives also had the opportunity to discuss district problems and concerns. Next year the 2019 EAD Advisory Council Meeting will be held in Hilo. It’s That Time Again… Coordinated Services will assist in scheduling AARP Tax appointments at the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) starting January 2, 2019. Seniors living in the East Hawai‘i districts are encouraged to call our CSE Hilo office at (808) 961-8777 to schedule an appointment or contact your nearest CSE district offices to assist you. Call our offices at: Hilo 961-8710, Kea‘au 966-5801 and Kona 323-4330 for more information about our programs, or visit us online at www.hawaiicounty.gov State Senior Softball Tournament The State Senior Softball Tournament was held on the Island of Maui July 30th to August 2nd, 2018.  20 teams from the big Island joined in on all the fun.  This year Big island took 3, 1st places in 3 divisions and a few 2nd places and 3rd places.  The tournament was 4 days long and all went really well.  The softball teams got at least 5 games in while on Maui.  We are sooo very proud all all the teams and fans that participated in the tournament.  44th Annual Senior Softball State Tournament will be held at Old’s in Kailua-Kona August 6th-8th, 2019. Honomu Rockets from Hilo, took 1st place in the “C” Division at the State Tournament Kona Legends from Kailua-Kona, took 1st place in the “B” Division at the State Tournament Teams from around the state all together for the opening ceremony for the State Tournament. Kupuna News 5 October-December 2018 44th Annual Hawai‘i Island Kupuna Softball Tournament On June 28-29, 2018 in Kailua-Kona at the Maka‘eo Sports Complex, 24 teams from around the Island came together to play in this years tournament. There were 4 Divisions with 6 teams playing in each Division. It was a great day and the senior enjoyed the tournament. Photos of softball teams. Kupuna News 14 Information and Assistance (808) 961-8777 Senior Training & Employment Program Mark Kunzer— Program Director, (808) 961-8750 HERE'S THE NEWS SENIORS IN TRAINING The Senior Training Employment Program (STEP) assists eligible, unemployed, low-income job seekers age 55 years or older in getting temporary but current work experience and training. STEP helps Seniors receive training to aid them in return to the workforce. Participants work an average of 19 hours per week and are paid at the current minimum wage.
