Department of Water Sustainability <br />9 <br />10 Objectives <br />11 <br />12 A. Dismantle the Department of Water Supply, and move the all water responsibilities of <br />13 the Department of Environmental Management and DWS into this line department <br />14 <br />15 B. Promote water conservation aggressively as well as the reuse of all reclaimable waters. <br />16 <br />17 C. Institute policies and programs to protect surface, ground and near shore waters of <br />18 Hawaii Island <br />19 <br />20 D. Coordinate with other departments in this regard. <br />21 <br />22 <br />23 <br />24 <br />25 2. Office of Sustainable Water <br />26 <br />27 Objectives <br />28 <br />29 A. Create an executive position under the Managing Director to oversee and coordinate all <br />30 county policies that affect all water and coastal water resources to protect the economy <br />31 and wise us of water resources. <br />32 <br />33 B. Administer programs to assure water resource quality and sustainability to create <br />34 resilience to climate change <br />35 <br />36 <br />37 NOTE: Kauai and Maui Counties restructured water supply functions in a similar fashion many <br />38 years ago. <br />39 <br />Comm.
