Dear Drs. Shirkhodai and Hughey:
I recently learned that the Pacific Disaster Center will support the County of
Hawaii's recovery efforts by providing a comprehensive Kilauea Eruption Risk
Assessment. This was welcome news, as the results of this assessment will guide
policymaking for the Lower East Rift Zone and support the update to the Multi-Hazard
Mitigation Plan.
Even more gratifying was the news that the PDC will provide this critical analysis
at no cost to the County. We are immensely grateful for this generous offer, which will
enable the County to focus limited recovery resources on other priorities.
