Aloha Charter Commission members, Our island's public lands are crucial. And I daresay, they could be a huge asset to our residents and the tourism industry (thus paying for themselves!) if they were managed properly. Imagine open space that's accessible to all. We've all seen what becomes of land that's not protected. Maybe not tomorrow, or next week, but without protection it's inevitable. Let's prevent the "paved paradise" version of Hawaii from happening here. The land fund is working to preserve Hawaii Islands treasured lands. In addition please keep the covenant which protects these lands in perpetuity that says: "This property (or easement) was acquired with money from the Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Fund. It shall be held in perpetuity for the use and enjoyment of the people of Hawai'i County and may not be sold, mortgaged, traded or transferred in any way." Mahalo for your kokua to save our treasured places. Kris Bordessa Ahualoa 1 Comm. No. 3.1.33
