Subject: Strengthen the Land Fund program
Aloha Charter Commission members!
urge the Commission to encourage the County to have a dedicated staff member who works ONLY on the
2% Land Fund Program, and NOT cut the Land Fund!!
Since 180 properties have been proposed by citizens, and only 14 have been acquired, it is obvious, that the
County needs a dedicated person on staff to follow through with proposals made by citizens. This would allow
more properties to be acquired, and allow more matching funds and/or stewardship grants to be awarded.
Also, please keep the very important covenant which protects these lands in perpetuity by keeping the
covenant which protects these lands in perpetuity, i.e.: "This property was acquired with money from the Public
Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Fund. It shall be held in perpetuity for the use and
enjoyment of the people of Hawai'i County and may not be sold, mortgaged, traded or transferred in any
way.."
