Regular Meeting of the Pension Board
August 29, 2016
County Building, First Floor—Council Room, Hilo, Hawaii
CALL TO ORDER: The quarterly meeting of the Pension Board was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by
Chair Guillerma"Irma" G. Sumera.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Guillerma"Irma" G. Sumera, Chair
Nyala Neill, Vice-Chair
Emma Sousa, Member
Stewart Maeda, County Clerk
Also Present: Dee Torres, Secretary, Office of the County Clerk-Council
Deanna Sako, Director, Finance Department
Belinda Hall, Deputy Corporation Counsel
Kay Oshiro, Controller, Finance Department
Linda Young, Payroll Processing Supervisor, Finance Department
STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS: (There were none).
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: February 29, 2016
Ms. Neill moved to approve the minutes of February 29, 2016. Seconded by Ms. Sousa.
The motion was carried by the following vote:
AYES: Board Members Neill, Sousa, and Chair Sumera—3.
NEW BUSINESS:
Chair Sumera proceeded with the application for pension from the County of Hawai`i for
Ms. Arlene T. Araki (retired County of Hawaii Parks and Recreation Band Member).
Ms. Sousa made a motion to approve the pension application of Ms. Araki. Seconded by
Ms. Neill.
The motion was carried by the following vote:
AYES: Board Members Neill, Sousa, and Chair Sumera—3.
At this time, Chair Sumera asked Ms. Young to present the current County of Hawaii Pensioners'
report (attached).
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Chair Sumera stated that the next quarterly Pension Board meeting will be held on Monday,
November 28, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. for the new election of officers; also, if there should be any new
pension applications or other pertinent matters relating to the Pension Board. Ms. Torres will notify
all Board Members and staff of upcoming new Pension Board agendas and/or cancellations.
ADJOURNMENT:
Chair Sumera asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Ms. Neill made a motion to adjourn the
meeting. Seconded by Ms. Sousa.
The motion was carried by the following vote:
AYES: Board Members Neill, Sousa, and Chair Sumera— 3.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:35 p.m.
