HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-11-30 Pension Board Meeting Minutes Minutes Regular Meeting of the Pension Board November 30, 2015 County Building, First Floor—Council Room, Hilo, Hawai`i CALL TO ORDER: The quarterly meeting of the Pension Board was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by Chair Guillerma"Irma" G. Sumera. ROLL CALL: Present: Guillerma"Irma" G. Sumera, Chair Arlene Waugh, Vice-Chair Nyala Neill, Member Jon Henricks, Deputy County Clerk Absent & Excused: Stewart Maeda, Ex-Officio Member Also Present: Dee Torres, Secretary, Office of the County Clerk-Council Deanna Sako, Director, Finance Department Belinda Hall, Deputy Corporation Counsel Kay Oshiro, Controller, Finance Department Janice Watkins, Payroll Processing Supervisor, Finance Department STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS: (There were none). APPROVAL OF MINUTES: February 23, 2015 Ms. Neill moved to approve the minutes of February 23, 2015. Seconded by Ms. Waugh. The motion was carried by the following vote: AYES: Board Members Neill, Waugh, and Chair Sumera— 3. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Chair Sumera proceeded with the application for pension from the County of Hawai`i for Mr. John P. Schulte (retired County of Hawai`i P&R Band Member). Ms. Neill made a motion to approve the pension application of Mr. Schulte. Seconded by Ms. Waugh. The motion was carried by the following vote: AYES: Board Members Neill, Waugh, and Chair Sumera— 3. 2. Chair Sumera proceeded with the application for pension from the County of Hawai`i for Mr. Wendell K. Leite (retired County of Hawai`i P&R Band Member). Ms. Neill made a motion to approve the pension application of Mr. Leite. Seconded by Ms. Waugh. The motion was carried by the following vote: AYES: Board Members Neill, Waugh, and Chair Sumera—3. 3. Ms. Sako stated that"Election of Officers" was not agendized on this agenda, so we will have to reschedule it for the next quarterly meeting. (February 29, 2016). 4. Ms. Hall stated that since Ms. Waugh's term expires on December 31, 2015, a 90-day extension would end on March 30, 2016. (Hawai`i County Charter, Section 13-4 (d)). Ms. Waugh consented to the extension. At this time, Chair Sumera asked Ms. Watkins to present the 2015 County of Hawai`i Pensioners' report. (Attached) ANNOUNCEMENTS: Chair Sumera stated that the next quarterly Pension Board meeting will be held on Monday, February 29, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. for the new elections of officers; also, if there should be any new pension applications or other pertinent matters relating to the Pension Board. Ms. Torres will notify all Board Members and staff of any current agendas and/or cancellations. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Sumera made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Ms. Waugh.
