NEW BUSINESS:
1. Chair Hamamoto proceeded with the application for pension from the County of Hawai`i for
Mrs. Julita C. Casil, widow of Mr. Alfredo Casil (former County of Hawai`i Band Member),
who passed away at age 93.
At this time, Chair Hamamoto asked if there was any discussion and mentioned that the Finance
Department was the "support body" for the Pension Board (taking care of Pensioners' paperwork
such as payroll, benefits, and medical insurance concerns). We did receive, and have on file, the
Certificate of Death of Mr. Alfredo Casil, dated April 2, 2013, and a Marriage Contract, dated
August 16, 1962.
Chair Hamamoto asked Ms. Sako to explain the normal practice and procedures of the Pension
Board approving the release of pension benefits.
Ms. Sako explained that because Mr. Alfredo Casil was a pensioner, Mrs. Julita C. Casil is
entitled to continue on with his pension and medical benefits, as the above criteria proves that
she is the legal spouse, and that the pension payments cannot be released and medical benefits
cannot be continued until the Pension Board approves her application.
At this time, Ms. Sumera made a motion to approve the pension application of
Mrs. Julita C. Casil. Seconded by Mr. Heaukulani.
The motion was carried by the following vote:
AYES: Board Members Heaukulani, Sumera, Waugh, and Chair Hamamoto—4.
