Re: Comm. 20 CA -6 Revising Section 7-2 (Authority of Police and Fire
Commissions to discipline Police Chief and Fire Chief) Testimony
I agree with the proposal to allow the Commissions to discipline the Police Chief and
or Fire Chief; HOWEVER, an additional provision should be added to say that no
persons previously employed by the police department or the fire department
should be appointed to the Police Commission or the Fire Commission.
Otherwise, the Police Chief and the Commission are one big club with just a few who
are independent of "club pressure."
RE: Police Commission:
Add: No new members of the Commission shall be a former police
officer.
