Dear Mayor Miyawaki:
I am writing to express my heartfelt thanks to you for the most heart-warming gesture of
sympathy and generosity from the residents and government of Yurihama Town
following our devastating loss during the Lower East Rift Zone eruption.
We are moved by the deep kindness expressed through the collection of funds to help
mitigate the suffering that our community sustained during the four months that lava
covered homes and farms in Puna.
We are grateful for the solidarity that your gesture represents, which is so characteristic
of the enduring ties of friendship between Yurihama and Hawaii County. Yurihama
occupies a very special place in my heart, and always will.
Once again, I thank you very much for all that you do for your friends here on Hawaii
Island. Please come back to see us soon.
