SOUTH KOHALA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN ACTION COMMITTEE
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN of the following matters to be considered by the South Kohala Action
Committee in accordance with the provisions of Section 92 -

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Communication Number 2019 - 01 Meeting Calendar.
PUBLIC COMMENT ON AGENDA ITEMS: Members of the public are invited to spe ak to any items
on the agenda. With discretion of the Chair of the CDP Action Committee, comments may be made
either during the public comment portion of the agenda or during the relev ant business item, and
please fill out a
yellow request form and submit it to Planning Department Staff or the Action Committee
Chairperson prior to the Public Comment portion of the meeting.
RECOGNITION OF OUTGOING MEMBERS: Certificates of Appreciation from the County of Hawai‘i
will be presented to outgoing Action Committee Members to recognize their outstanding
commitment and participation.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: The Action Committee will consider the draft minutes of th e
September 24 , 2018 meeting.

REPORTS and OTHER PRESENTATIONS:
2. Presentation by Erica Perez from the Coral Reef Alliance. Clean Water for Reefs Puak
project update and next steps. What started as a gr assroots community - driven effort i s now
a state priority. Learn how we can work together to mitigate wastewater impacts in Puak .
BUSINESS:
Communication No. 2018 - 12 : Action Committee Recommendation Letter: The Action
Committee will revisit their priority projects which were chosen last year. Discussion may
include updates on community partnerships, subcommittee work, or other related projects
in the South Kohala region. Action Committee members may also create additional
subcommittees for projects related to CDP topics as desired.
The projects specified last year include:
a. Potable Water in Kawaihae
b.
c. Waimea Historic District
d. Waikoloa Intersection
e. Emergency Shelters in District
4. Communication Number 2019 - 02: Action Committee Capital Improvement Program
( CIP ) Recommendation Letter: The Action Committee will discuss and plan for making
recommendations for the County’s Capital Improvement Program/Budget for the next
l year. Discussion may include revisions to the draft CIP letter including the
addition of other project recommendations as desired.
5. Queen Ka‘ahumanu Hwy – Kawaihae Road Intersection. Chair Kaneali‘i will lead a talk
story discussion regarding the status o f this intersection.
6. Nominations of lands in South Kohala for acquisition with Funds from the County’s
Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Fund [PONC]. The
Action Committee will discuss the process of nominating lands for acquisiti on consideration
suggestions and could involve the creation of a PONC investigatory subcommittee.
AGENDA FOR NEXT MEETING: Agenda item suggestions from the Action Committee an d Planning
Staff for the March 25, 2019 meeting.

NOTICE : The purpose of the public hearings is to afford all interested persons a reasonable
opportunity to be heard on the above items. According to the Operating Guidelines of the
Community Development Plan Action Committee, a person desiring to submit oral or written
testimony shall indicate her/his name and whether the testimony is her/his behalf or as a
representative of an organization or individual. Written testimony shall be submitted with an
original and nine copies prior to testifying. The Comm ittee would appreciate timely submittal to
the Planning Department at least one week prior to the meeting date to allow for mailing and
thorough Committee review.
