Subject: Oppose CA -13, CA -7: Support CA -9
Dear Commissioners,
1. I OPPOSE NEW CA -13 authorizing the Mayor to take the funds for an emergency and not pay back for 5 years.
CONSEQUENCE: TAKE THE FUND AND NOT PAY BACK. There is a Disaster Relief Fund that has never been fully
funded- WHY? They take it to balance the budget. Right now the Mayor Kim has been stockpiling the funds and
not using them. As of 12.31.2018 there is $19,667,000. in the 2% Land Fund and $2.8 million in the Maintenance
Fund. This is because there is no one working on this program. see exact language below.
2. I SUPPORT CA -9 WHICH PROPOSES A STAFF PERSON TO WORK ONLY ON THE 2% LAND FUND PROGRAM BE
HIRED.
3. I OPPOSE CA -7 is on the agenda for Friday-
- -GUTS THE
riday---GUTSTHE FUND to .75%,
- -deletes that the land be preserved forever for the use and enjoyment of the people of Hawaii
County and
• --moves the Maintenance fund to the Code where it will be axed at budget times
The 2% Land Fund was created by the people for the people! Do not touch the Charter Amendment. Or
You face the wrath of the people for the 4th time. Take funds for emergencies from the Disaster Fund
for which it exists. And don't raid that fund for other shortfalls.
