We strongly support the protective wisdom of the 2% Land Fund. The 2% Land Fund, possibly more than any other measure in effect today, significantly contributes to the current and ongoing preservation of this unique island, traditional culture, peoples, and creatures. WE STRONGLY OPPOSE CA -7: WE OPPOSE removing Maintenance Funding for the 2% Land Fund from the Charter! Caring for the land must remain part and parcel of purchasing the land; this pairing must be protected. WE OPPOSE the property tax funding proposal which will not raise enough $ to purchase land! WE OPPOSE the removal of the the "Perpetuity " clause, as stated in the 2% Land Fund! The land purchased with the 2% Land Fund must be protected in perpetuity. This is the key for Big Island even having a future that is recognizable as Hawaiian. WE STRONGLY OPPOSE CA -13: WE OPPOSE taking funds from the 2% Land Fund for purposes other than its original intent -- under any circumstances! The percentage basis of the 2% Land Fund allows for it to receive lower funding during times of economic duress. We would encourage the County to fully fund the Disaster Relief Fund, on a regular basis. Leave the 2% Land Fund Alone! We will support those who support the 2% Land Fund! Sincerely, Robin Stetson Puna, Big Island 1 Comm. No. 29.8
