Regarding: 2% land fund program.
Aloha, Commissioners,
My name is Rowan Miller and my parents include Wendy McKoy And
Josh Miller. I am a 6th grader at Volcano School of Arts and Sciences and I
live in Naalehu in the Ka'u district. I feel privileged to go to Kawa once or
twice a month and I learn to have fun and work at the same time. I also
learn how to pull invasive species and regrow native ones. Kawa is
important to every living thing; my dogs, cats, my community, family, my
friends and so many others. I think this is important because it holds
memories of ancient Hawaiians and it's important to hold onto those. I think
we should all thank Kumu James Akau, Uncle Duane, Auntie Clarissa Pua
and Uncle Kaui Felder for protecting Kawa and I think we should stand by
to protect Na Mamo o Kawa.
At Kawa, we plant many different native species of plants and we
bring a lot of aloha Aina so the land can care of us. Kawa is not only
important to me and my community, it's also important to people visiting,
because nice and kind people visiting Hawaii, will love to see Hawaiian
culture for all that it is, and not for all the hotels and suites. All of those
people will visit Kawa and love to see untouched land and beautiful scenery
with all the giant, thriving native plants that we planted years ago. Also if
Comm. No. 21.120
visitors see the untouched land thriving, it would be a great experience to
carry on the stories of Kawa and all that it contributed in the past.
63% of the voters were for the 2% land fund program 3 TIMES in
2006, 2010 and 2012! Please, use this this fund to acquire the beautiful
land of Waikapuna. The Big Island is overflowing with native wildlife found
nowhere else in the world, but sadly they are being crowded out by resorts,
new buildings, tourists and so much more human inventions and different
species of invasive plants and animals.
Please use this this fund so my children and grandchildren can enjoy
it one day in the near future. I think Kawa is very important for so many
different species on the Big Island because it's a thriving, well kept piece of
land and I think it's important to keep those rare pieces of Hawaii and the
world safe and sound. Please let the 2% land fund program continue so
Kawa can be cherished and loved by all kind and loving people that this
island has to offer. Thank you for listening to my protest and I hope you
take this into more than consideration, that you help us keep Kawa
beautiful and thriving.
Sincerely,
Rowan Miler.
