Regarding: 2% Land Fund Program.
Aloha Commissioners,
I am Moani Kritzler, my mom and my dad's name is Sharon and Eric and my
sisters' name is Kailani. I am a 6th grader in Volcano School Of Arts and Sciences
and I live in Kurtistown. I feel wonderful to go to Kawa once a month and learn
how it's important to spread aloha `aina to Kawa because the Island provides us
with a beautiful beach. Kawa is important for the world; my dogs, my mom, my
friends, and my sister because it's a living place to the Native Hawaiians and the
community. We want to protect the land from vandals so they won't harm this
precious land.
What I have learned in Kawa is to plant more native plants like wiliwili, kou,
niu, naupaka. I also learned to cut down the invasive plants like christmas berry
and haole koa so our native plants won't be overrun by invasive plants. Also I
learned that we should put rocks around the native plants so they won't get
trampled on by tourists. In the future I hope my beautiful trees that I planted will
grow so it would cover me and my kids like an umbrella. I take care of the land
with aloha `aina because the beautiful land provides us an amazing beach of joy.
It's important for visitors to come see our gorgeous and natural beach that has full
of culture and memories.
Comm. No. 21.124
In 2006, 63% voters approved of this Land Fund, and again in 2010. Also in
2012, 63% of votes agreed for the 2% of Land Fund and maintenance for them to
take care of these existing lands like Kawa and future lands. Take these funds and
use them to purchase the beautiful land called Waikapuna. Why I think you should
buy Waikapuna? It is because I don't want to have resorts taking the beauty away
by having tall buildings in the way of the actual paradise.
Why Kawa is important to me? It is because I want to have my children to
see the hard work we've done in middle school so they too can get inspiration to
do what we've done to help Kawa. Hopefully my children would want to do the
same. I would also love to see what my old middle school did in Kawa after I
graduate college. I don't want go back to Kawa to figure out I can't go back to my
beautiful land of memories and life. I want everyone to go see Kawa and the
whole world to see Kawa! I don't need to have all of my hard work be washed
away with resorts and pollution. But I want to see people breathe back aloha in the
land and have the clean air of life. Please don't stop funding Kawa. I hope you
keep these letters in mind.
Sincerely,
Moani Kritzler
