Dear Chair Dela Cruz and Committee Members:
RE: SB 1131, SD1 Relating to Ohana Zones
Hawaii County supports SB 1131, SD1.
SB 1131, SD1 broadens the scope of the Ohana Zones Pilot Program by increasing the number of
zones and extending the implementation period. Hawaii County has identified potential ohana zone sights
that, if funded, will increase the number of short-term and permanent housing beds. As part of its
implementation plan, Hawaii County will partner with medical and social services providers in the delivery of
services and resources to program participants as part of the plan to transition to appropriate permanent
housing.
