ADA Pedestrian Push Buttons Installation at Kuakini Highway and
Hualālai Road Intersection April 25
Kailua-Kona, HI: The Hawai‘i County Department of Public Works, Traffic Division is scheduled to install
ADA pedestrian push buttons on traffic signal poles at the intersection of Kuakini Highway and Hualālai
Road in Kailua-Kona on Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m, weather conditions
permitting.
The new push buttons will ping a sound or can be programmed to talk and pedestrian countdown
modules will emit the “HAND” and “MAN” signals.
There will be intermittent lane closures and travel in all directions through the work area will be
provided. Road work signs will be posted in the work zone and special duty police officers will facilitate
traffic movement and assist pedestrians crossing in the crosswalk. Motorists are advised to expect
delays and encouraged to use alternate routes.
The County of Hawai‘i Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and
thanks the community for their patience and understanding.
