Communication No. 2015 -15
MOUNTAIN VIEW VILLAGE PLANNING GROUP
March 12,2015,6:00 pm
Mountain View Elementary School Cafeteria
MEETING SUMMARY
Review of School and Library reports: We reviewed the first draft on Mountain View Elementary
School (Susan Langer). Stats on staffing, years of operation, locations, etc. still needed. Principal
Vicente (new this year) expressed concern about the presence of members of the public walking through
the campus to access the library. He was interested in working with the MVLRP group to create safer
road access for the school. The Library report was reviewed and discussed, especially the aspects of
location, capacity and the future Regional Library. Report on Na Wai Ola still to come. Post Office
interview scheduled for next week.
Update on the collation of PCDP and Survey We have progressed about half way through the points
from the PCDP. The work is difficult and progressing slowly. We commit to having it complete within
a month.
Review of other news relevant to MVLRP: We discussed at length the progress, or lack of, on the re-
opening of South Lauko Road. Meeting with Representative Paleka indicates he is aware of the issues
raised by two land owners. Owens report that the right of way has been sufficiently cleared to allow for
the completion of the survey. Discussion of the issue of the connection of South Lauko with Highway
11, narrowness, visibility. Possibility of light industrial/commercial development on South Lauko was
discussed. Access to the back of the school. Owens agreed to keep up weekly email correspondence to
keep informed on progress.
We reviewed the approved Quade permit and noted the inclusion of the recommendations from the AC.
Short discussion on the expected passage of the Pahoa Village Design Guidelines. How will MV deal
with design guidelines as we are not of a size and nature to support a review committee, may not even
want to put overly burdensome conditions on development, etc. Still, the community has
overwhelmingly stated that it wants to maintain historic character of village.
Commitment to continue with writing and interview assignments, to have an outline of the plan ready to
review at the May meeting.
NEXT MEETING: THURSDAY, APRIL 9TH, 6:00 PM, MOUNTAIN VIEW SCHOOL CAFETERIA
