KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII <br /> MINUTES <br /> Meeting Date: April 27, 2021 <br /> Time: 5:24 p.m. <br /> Location: Online <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> Commissioners Present: Shaun Roth, Jasmine Crusat, Ann Kern, Riley Smith, Zon Sullenberger, <br /> and Arne Werchick <br /> Absent and Excused: Bryant Ching and Michaela Ikeuchi <br /> Planning Department: Terri Napeahi (Planner), Rosalind Newlon (Planner), Deanne Bugado <br /> (Planner), Rachelle Ley (Private Secretary to the Planning Director, as <br /> the host of this Zoom meeting), and Noriko Sauer(Commission <br /> Secretary) <br /> Applicant: Pieter Heres (New Business Item No. 1) <br /> Based on the Governor's Nineteenth Proclamation Related to the COVID-19 Emergency dated <br /> April 9, 2021, this meeting had been scheduled to be held online, with live streaming video for <br /> the public to observe the meeting; however, there was a technical problem with connecting to the <br /> YouTube live stream. Good faith efforts were made, but the problem could not be resolved. <br /> With the understanding that there was no public testimony on the sole agenda item, and that the <br /> video could be made available later, Chairman Shaun Roth called the meeting to order pursuant <br /> to the aforementioned Proclamation. A quorum was present. <br /> Chairman Roth introduced the Commissioners and recited the meeting procedure. Upon inquiry <br /> by Chairman Roth, Ms. Newlon reconfirmed that there was no public testimony on the agenda <br /> item. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> Minutes of the Meetings of December 8, 2020 and January 26, 2021 <br /> The Commission postponed approval of the minutes at the request of staff. <br /> STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS <br /> None. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> 1. The applicant, Pieter Heres, President of Kama'aina Hale Apartments, is requesting <br /> design review of a new gazebo planned for the playground area of a 128-unit apartment <br /> complex. The new gazebo is approximately 10-feet tall, and 11'-1/2" maximum height <br /> measured to the ridgeline of the roof, meeting the height limit of no more than twenty <br /> 1 <br />
