DeVera, Ashley
From: Vicky Kometani <vkome808@gmail.com>
Sent: Thursday, October 6, 2022 11:31 AM
To: LPCtestimony
Subject: re: D. Cravalho (REZ 21-000248)
Via email: LPCtestimony@hawaiicounty.gov
Hawaii County Planning Commission,
As I've done on each occasion, I am again submitting testimony against rezoning of TMK: (3) 5-5-009:019, re: D.
Cravalho (REZ 21-000248).
Nothing has changed from my prior testimonies. The parcel is and will always be inappropriate for what is
being sought with the zoning change. And, of note, no one I've spoken to is aware of any so-called community
outreach at all by Mr. Cravalho in regards to his request leading up to this latest Commission meeting.
The parcel is directly adjacent to our "Welcome to Historic North Kohala" sign. It is directly fronting a busy
road and intersection with no reasonably safe egress to either Akoni Pule Hwy. or Ho'ea Road. It sits directly in
front of a COH law officer's rip vate home! It is adjacent to the quaint building that is home to the North Kohala
Community Resource Center. There are no sidewalks for safe access by pedestrians to the parcel from Hawi
town center.
This tiny parcel has no business becoming commercial space. Such an operation in this vicinity would be
aesthetically shocking and a safety hazard for cars and pedestrians.
Please don't approve this zoning change request. Respect historic Kohala, respect our rural landscape and
please, help us continue to cherish and hang on to the charm of Hawi. There are other, more logical places for
Mr. Cravalho's commercial endeavors and I wish him success.... just not in this particular location.
Mahalo,
Vicky Kometani
PO BOX 213. Hawi, HI 96719
