<br />LEEWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAIÒI <br />MINUTES <br />MAY 15, 2009 <br /> <br />The Leeward Planning Commission met in regular session at 9:40 a.m. in the King <br />Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel, Ballroom I, 75-5660 Palani Road, <br />Chairman Rodney Watanabe presiding. <br /> <br />PRESENT: Rodney Watanabe <br /> Lani Bowman <br /> Geraldine Giffin <br /> Frederic Housel <br /> <br />Bill Brilhante, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br /> Margaret Masunaga, Deputy Planning Director <br />Norman Hayashi, Planning Program Manager <br />Jeff Darrow, Staff Planner <br />Maija Cottle, Staff Planner <br />Deanne Bugado, Planner, Kona Office <br />Kiran Emler, Engineering Division, Department of Public Works <br /> <br />Commissioner Watanabe welcomed all in attendance, and introduced the Commissioners and <br />staff to members of the public. He explained that he was actually the Chair of the former <br />Planning Commission, and that the first business of the Leeward Planning Commission is to <br />elect the officers. <br /> <br />ELECTION OF OFFICERS The Commission took this item up at 9:42 a.m., with <br />approximately 13 people from the public in attendance. <br />Commissioner Watanabe opened the nominations for the officers. <br />Commissioner Housel nominated Commissioner Watanabe for Chairman. It was moved by <br />Commissioner Giffin and seconded by Commissioner Bowman that the nominations be closed. <br />The motion was carried by voice vote of all Commissioners in att <br />Commissioner Bowman nominated Commissioner Giffin for First Vice Chair. It was moved by <br />Commissioner Bowman and seconded by Commissioner Housel that the nominations be closed. <br />The motion was carried by voice vote of all Commissioners in att <br /> <br />Commissioner Watanabe stated that since there are no contenders for the officer positions, the <br />slate of Commissioners nominated are declared elected as officers for the remainder of 2009, and <br />suggested that Second Vice Chair be elected when the three vacant seats of the Commission have <br />been filled.
