<br />LEEWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAIÒI <br />MINUTES <br />SEPTEMBER 18, 2009 <br /> <br />The Leeward Planning Commission met in regular session at 9:40 a.m. in the King <br />Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel, Ballroom I, 75-5660 Palani Road, <br />Chairman Rodney Watanabe presiding. <br /> <br />PRESENT: Rodney Watanabe <br /> Lani Bowman <br />Geraldine Giffin <br /> <br /> Frederic Housel <br /> Wayne Iokepa <br /> <br />Brandon Gonzalez, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />BJ Leithead Todd, Planning Director <br /> <br />Norman Hayashi, Planning Program Manager <br />Maija Cottle, Staff Planner <br />Kiran Emler, Engineering Division, Department of Public Works <br /> <br />ABSENT & EXCUSED: Brandi Beaudet <br /> <br /> <br />The Chair introduced the Commissioners and staff to members of the public. <br />SPP 09-86 The Commission took this item up at 9:40 a.m. with approximately <br />15 people from the public in attendance. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />DEPARTMENT OF <br />ACCOUNTING AND <br />GENERAL SERVICES <br />KAÒPLEHU, <br />NORTH KONA <br /> <br />APPLICANT: STATE OF HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING AND <br />GENERAL SERVICES (SPP 09-86) <br />Special Permit to allow the construction of a 150-foot tall telecommunication tower and related <br />structures on approximately 31,015 square feet of land within the State Land Use Agricultural <br />District. The area involved is located on the northern slope of Huallai, approximately 2 miles <br />mauka and east of the Mmalahoa Highway 29-mile marker, KaÒplehu, North Kona, HawaiÒi, <br />TMK: 7-2-2: portion of 1. <br /> <br />Ms. Cottle oriented the Commission and public of the subject and surrounding properties on the <br />location map and site plan, and summarized the request, saying that the purpose of the proposed <br />facility is to support the modernization of the microwave communication system used by the <br />1 <br /> <br />
