<br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />MINUTES <br />JANUARY 21, 2005 <br />The Planning Commission met for a site inspection at 9:03 a.m. on Dale Laurance€s property in <br />the Kona Bay Estates, Kailua-Kona, North Kona, Hawai`i and at 10:00 a.m. in the King <br />KamehamehaŠs Kona Beach Hotel, Kamakahonu Ballroom, 75-5660 Palani Road, Kailua-Kona, <br />Hawaii with First Vice-Chairperson Hannah Springer presiding. <br />PRESENT:William GrahamABSENT & EXCUSED: Fred Galdones <br />Jeffrey McCallC. Kimo Alameda <br />Rene€ SiracusaEarl Fujikawa <br />Francis Smith (Left at 6:40 p.m.) <br />HannahSpringer <br />Ivan Torigoe, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />Roy Takemoto, Deputy Planning Director <br />Norman Hayashi, Planning Program Manager <br />PhyllisFujimoto,StaffPlanner <br />Jeff Darrow, Staff Planner <br />Kiran Emler representing Department of Public Works <br />SITE VISITThe Commission took this item up at 9:03 a.m. with <br />DALE LAURENCEapproximately 10 people from the public in attendance. <br />KONA BAY ESTATES <br />SUBDIVISION <br />KAILUA-KONA <br />APPLICANT: DALE LAURANCE (SSV 04-001) <br />Site visitation on an application for a Shoreline Setback Variance to allow the construction of a <br />swimming pool with a shoreline setback of five (5) feet in lieu of the minimum requirementof <br />twenty (20) feet. The property is situatedalong the south (makai) side of the Kona Bay Estates <br />privatesubdivisionroad,KonaBayEstatesSubdivision,Kailua-Kona,Hawaii,TMK:7-5-5:37. <br />ThePlanningCommissionersmetontheprivateroadfrontingtheLaurancepropertyintheKona <br />Bay Estates Subdivision. The Commission then proceeded to the back of the house where the <br />proposedpoolwouldbelocated.Mr.DarroworientedtheCommissionandpublicofthesubject <br />and surrounding properties on the location map and site plan and where the present shoreline <br />setbackislocatedinrelationtowheretherequestedshorelinesetbackwouldbelocated. <br />Mr. Darrow also indicated where the public access walkway is located. <br />rd <br />The Commission then continued to the 3 floor of the house to get a better view of where the <br />propertyisinrespecttotheshorelineandtheotherproperties. <br />1 <br /> <br />
