From: Duke Kamaka
To: LPCtestimonv;WPCtestimonv
Subject: Oppose Shoreline 20 ft to 40 ft
Date: Wednesday,May 31,2023 7:56:23 AM
Attachments: Mo oku auhau'o Lunalilo Duke Kaliko Kamaka.odf
Aloha Leeward and Windward Planning Commission,
I urge LPC& WPC to please oppose agenda item 1, the Planning Departments
Shoreline Setback of 40feet for Rules 8 and 9.
I oppose due to:
• LACK OF DESCRIPTIVE DETAIL IN RULES 8 AND 9
• Rule 8: the inadequate setback requirements while in Oahu and Maui commit to 60-130
feet setback, further aligning with Hawaii States Climate Resilient initiatives.
• Disregarding our Native Hawaiian (*Kanaka Maoli)people with the Hawaii County
Planning Department proposing weak archaeological rules that will 'NOT'protect
cultural and historical sites.
• These changes seem to benefit the usual suspects of private owners, corporations, and
offshore investors 'WITHOUT' carefully considering our local communities' well being
and the protection of our natural and cultural resources.
These written rules, as they stand, hold too many loopholes. Therefore, item 1, Rules 8 & 9,
should'NOT'pass.
*I have attached my vested rights in land through my Mo`okd`auhau or family genealogy.
confirm receipt
Mahalo,
Duke Kaliko Kamaka
96740
