From: Andrew Rosenblatt
To: WPCtestimonv
Subject: In protest of the planned development at Punalu"u Beach
Date: Tuesday, March 5,2024 11:56:01 AM
Dear Planning Commission,
I am writing to express my deep concern and opposition to the proposed development of a
hotel complex near Punalu'u Beach in Hawaii. As a resident of this beautiful community and
someone who deeply values our natural environment, I feel compelled to voice my objections
to this project.
Punalu'u Beach is notjust a picturesque destination; it is a vital ecosystem that supports
diverse marine and terrestrial life. The delicate balance of this ecosystem could be severely
disrupted by the construction and operation of a large-scale hotel complex. The noise,
pollution, and increased human activity associated with such a development pose significant
threats to the fragile ecosystem of Punalu'u Beach and its surrounding areas.
Furthermore, the proposed development raises serious concerns about the preservation of
cultural heritage and indigenous rights. Punalu'u Beach holds great cultural significance to the
Native Hawaiian community, and any development in this area must respect and honor their
cultural heritage. The construction of a hotel complex would not only disrespect the
sacredness of this land but also further marginalize the voices and rights of indigenous people.
Additionally, the development of a hotel complex near Punalu'u Beach could have detrimental
effects on the local economy and small businesses. Many local businesses rely on tourism
generated by the natural beauty of our coastline. By introducing a large-scale commercial
development,we risk overshadowing the unique charm and authenticity that drawvisitors to
our community in the first place, ultimately undermining the livelihoods of local
entrepreneurs.
In light of these concerns, I urge you to reconsider the proposed development and explore
alternative options that prioritize environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and
community well-being. I implore you to engage in meaningful dialogue with the local
community and indigenous stakeholders to ensure that any future development aligns with
their values and priorities.
Thankyou for considering my concerns. I hope that together we can work towards a
sustainable and inclusive future for Punalu'u Beach and its surrounding areas.
Sincerely,
Andrew Rosenblatt
310-467-2788
And rew.w.rose nb latt(a)mail.com
