From: mark
To: LPCtestimony; Kierkiewicz,Ashley
Subject: testimony AGAINST Bill 121 as written, with suggested amendments
Date: Friday,April 12,2024 11:12:39 AM
Attachments: Testimony Bill 121.paoes
I believe this bill was written in haste and without benefit of ANY economic study,
which should be done prior to devastating our local economy
Here are a few KEY ISSUES
-We need a path to establish VACATION NODES, as Volcano, Kehena, HPP and
other popular tourist destinations have NO hotels. This was promised my Heather
Kimball during ALL community discussions, but fell off at the end
-Many of us have very small "AG" lots and have several continuously landscaped
properties which combined would meet the requirements of 'hosted' Parking' etc.
There must be a path to leased parking areas or able to include adjoining lots. We
ARE taxed as 'residential' in Kehena
-Many of our legal structure are built with benefit of permits, but for one reason or
another bedrooms show on permits as "office" "storage" "workshop" These need to
be included in permitted sleeping areas to help determine occupancy levels
- IF there are complaints, we need to be able to operate THROUGH the appeal
process, as cancelling reservations hurts our ratings and ability to secure future
reservations. If we prevail in appeals, our businesses would be permanently
damaged if we had to cancel, and start up again
- Please reach out to Ashley Keirkewitz as she is still trying to make these
amendments. Heather kimball has jumped the gun in favor of political timing. We're
simply not there yet!
Thank You
Mark Sidmore
808-214-2078
