From: Volcano Garden Arts
To: LPCtestimonv
Cc: Plannina Internet Mail
Subject: Testimony Against Bill 121 on TARs
Date: Tuesday,April 16,2024 4:09:00 PM
Aloha,
I am writing to testify against Bill 121 which
seeks to overhaul regulations on TARS. This
measure is both complicated and arcane and
for the kama`aina who rely on STVRs for
income, it is extremely hard to decode. As
written, it is excessive, unruly, and quite
simply a bureaucratic nightmare. It seems to
be intentionally designed to produce
confusion and angst for vacation rental
owners and operators. Once again , this seems
to be a creation of the powerful hotel
lobbyists. I feel County Council Chair Heather
Kimball is well-intentioned but misguided to
promote this extremely unfair proposal .
Visitors who want to have an authentic
experience would not be interested in staying
in overpriced Hawaiian hotels. One can easily
go to Mexico and find much more value for a
lot less than what the hotels offer here in
Hawaii . TARS are a wonderful genuine
alternative which many travelers are now
leaning toward . Without them , Hawaii would
lose these valuable visitors and much tax
