Between March 8, 2023 and July 12, 2023, the CRC held four public meetings and a site visit to the project area. Based on the preceding, the CRC cited previously undocumented resources (Holualoa Trail and petroglyph) as well as other possible significant cultural and historic features not previously identified and is of the opinion that due to the historic and cultural significance of the property, the project will likely have a substantial impact on historic assets. Furthermore,the CRC recommended that the project area be preserved in perpetuity, however, if this is infeasible, the CRC recommends further documentation of lineal descendant and kama`a—ma knowledge of the natural and cultural resources of the project area, inclusive of trails. Finally, the CRC recommends that, in consultation with the community, the applicant amend the current devlopment plan to include larger open space areas that integrate and protect natural, historical, anc cultural features of the landscape.
