Item#3 Jack Vanderhoff& Sau-Yin Yeung
Given at WPC 2-6-25 Hearing
2-3-25 Lianna Estrada Additional Testimony
From: coovaidCcbhawaiiantel.net
To: WPCtestimonv
Subject: Change of zone application (PL-REZ-2024-000072)
Date: Wednesday,February 5,2025 4:50:24 PM
Importance: High
Change of Zone Application (PL-REZ-2024-000072)
Applicants: Jack Vanderhoff, Jr. and Sau-Yin Yeung
TMK: 2-2-036: Waiakea, South Hilo, Hawaii
Aloha Members of the Windward Planning Commission:
I have already submitted written testimony but I wish to add to it. In presenting their
proposed change to the property, they do not address how they intend to ensure the safety
and privacy of the surrounding neighbors. By putting a business amid residences they are
inviting strangers into our private spaces. I say that because as seen from the plan, they
propose to put a driveway along one side of the structure right next to the neighboring
house leading to a parking lot behind the building. This parking lot will be out of sight from
the street. I consider anything fronting a street to be public space and anything out of sight
from the road to be private. Anyone, driving in there will be allowed to look directly into the
back area of my home. They will get to watch me do my laundry. They will be able to see
and have easy access to everything I have stored. They will also be able to see into the
backyards of multiple other homes. That is a very uncomfortable feeling. It is also not
specified what potential lighting they might put in the back. Are we the surrounding homes
going to be forced to put up with bright lights in our windows at night? We all have the right
to the peaceful enjoyment of our homes without being imposed upon by a neighbor who
wants to open a business where it does not belong.
Thank you
Lianna Estrada
