<br />KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />Meeting Date: August 7, 2012 <br />Time: 5:20 p.m. <br />Place: West Hawai‘i Civic Center <br />nd <br />Planning Department Conference Room – Building E, 2 Floor <br /> 74-5044 Ane Keohokālole Highway <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, 96740 <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Commissioners Present: Shane Kitchens, Theresa Andreae, Nancy Burns, Stephen Herbert and <br />John Hetherington <br />Absent and Excused: Fanny Au Hoy, Riley Saito and Sammie Stanbro <br />Applicants/Representatives: Matt Kilgore, Kyle Tengan, Chuck Porter and Josh Porter <br />Planning Department: Bennett Mark, Keola Childs and Noriko Sauer <br />Public: None <br /> <br />A quorum was present. Chair Kitchens called the meeting to order and the Commissioners <br />introduced themselves. <br /> <br />It was moved by Commissioner Hetherington, and seconded by Commissioner Burns, to take up the <br />minutes of the July 10, 2012, meeting after the New Business item. The motion was unanimously <br />carried by all Commissioners in attendance. <br /> <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS <br /> – None. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />1. Design Review of a new automobile service building (Quicklube) and proposed <br />modifications to an existing building (former Chevrolet dealership) for an automobile tire <br />sales and service facility. Applicant: Hawaii Tire Company, LLC (Lessee). Landowner: <br />Lanihau Properties, LLC. Property Tax Map Key No.: 7-5-005:085. Location: 75-5570 <br />Kuakini Highway, Kailua-Kona, at the southwest corner of Kuakini Highway and Kaiwi <br />Street/Kona Bay Drive (opposite West Hawaii Today building). <br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Childs oriented the Commissioners regarding the subject and surrounding properties on the <br />location map and site plan, as well as aerial and site photographs, and described the proposed project. <br />He pointed out that there was a large blank wall along Kuakini Highway, which could be utilized for <br />some architectural design or for signage. He said that the proposed development appeared to comply <br />with the architectural design guidelines for the Kailua Village. <br /> <br />The applicant’s representative, Matt Kilgore, presented further information. In response to <br />Commissioner Andreae’s question, he said that Lex Brodie’s would be relocating from the current <br />Kaiwi Street site to the subject property, and that Lex Brodie’s and Quicklube were under separate <br />1 <br /> <br />
