<br />KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />Meeting Date: August 20, 2013 <br />Time: 5:20 p.m. <br />Place: West Hawai‘i Civic Center <br />nd <br />Planning Department Conference Room – Building E, 2 Floor <br /> 74-5044 Ane Keohokālole Highway <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, 96740 <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Commissioners Present: John Hetherington, Alvin Akina, Jr., Theresa Andreae, Paul Bleck <br />and Adam Broderson <br />Absent and Excused: Fanny Au Hoy, Nancy Burns, Shane Kitchens and Sammie Stanbro <br />Planning Department: Bennett Mark, Keola Childs and Noriko Sauer <br /> <br />A quorum was present. Chair Hetherington called the meeting to order and the Commissioners <br />introduced themselves. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br /> <br />1. Minutes of the Meeting of August 6, 2013. <br /> <br />It was moved by Commissioner Broderson and seconded by Commissioner Bleck that the minutes <br />be approved as submitted. The motion was unanimously carried by a voice vote of all <br />Commissioners present. <br /> <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS <br /> – There was no one from the <br />public in attendance. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />1. Design review of a sign permit application for a proposed wall sign for “myKonaOffice <br />LLC” and Darl C. Gleed, business owner. Applicant: Jeremy Neill of Neill Sign and <br />Design. Land Owner: Walua Holdings Ltd. PSHP. TMK: 7-5-018:094. Located at <br />75-5905 Walua Road, Kailua-Kona, and fronting both Kuakini Highway and Walua Road. <br />Proposed sign faces Kuakini Highway. <br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Childs oriented the Commission of the subject and surrounding properties on aerial and site <br />photographs, and described the proposed wall sign. He mentioned that the Commission had <br />reviewed and approved a similar sign on the same building on May 10, 2011. He noted that based <br />on the referral memorandum from the Department of Public Works, Building Division, the <br />proposed sign met the Sign Code requirements, and that its design and coloration also appeared to <br />comply with the Signage Criteria Guidelines for Review in the Master Plan for Kailua-Kona. <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />
