<br />KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />Meeting Date: May 20, 2014 <br />Time: 5:32 p.m. <br />Place: West Hawai‘i Civic Center <br />nd <br />Planning Department Conference Room – Building E, 2 Floor <br /> 74-5044 Ane Keohokālole Highway <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, 96740 <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Commissioners Present: Paul Bleck, Alvin Akina, Jr., Fanny Au Hoy, Adam Broderson and <br />Shane Kitchens <br />Absent and Excused: Theresa Andreae, Nancy Burns, John Hetherington and <br /> Sammie Stanbro <br />Planning Department: Bennett Mark, Keola Childs and Noriko Sauer <br />Applicant/Representative: Richard Gonzalez and Lance Sundquist <br /> <br />A quorum was present. Chair Bleck called the meeting to order and the Commissioners introduced <br />themselves. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />1. Minutes of the Meeting of May 6, 2014. <br /> <br />It was moved by Commissioner Kitchens and seconded by Commissioner Au Hoy that the minutes be <br />approved as circulated. The motion was unanimously carried by a voice vote of all Commissioners <br />present. <br /> <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS <br /> – No statements were presented <br />under this section of the agenda. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />1. Design review of a proposed shed extension. Applicant: Hawaii Gas. Landowner: Queen <br />Lili‘uokalani Trust. TMK: 7-4-010:007. Located in the Kailua Industrial Subdivision, at <br />the Northwest (mauka-Kohala) corner of Kaiwi Street and Kuakini Highway, across from <br />Hawaii Tire Center and Quiklube. <br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Childs oriented the Commissioners of the subject and surrounding properties on aerial and site <br />photographs. He described the proposed shed roof extension, and passed around color samples. He <br />noted that metal material was being proposed in consideration of termites, weather and the intended <br />purpose, but that overall the project as designed appeared to be respectful and complementary to the <br />particular section of the Kailua Village. In response to Commissioner Au Hoy’s question, Mr. Childs <br />said that the 50-foot beautification easement along Kuakini Highway was part of the subject parcel, <br />and that the easement ran from the Palani Road intersection to this parcel. <br />1 <br /> <br />
