<br />North Kohala Community Access Group <br />Meeting Notes <br />February 5, 2014 (Old Courthouse 4:30pm) <br />Participants: Carter Collins, Toni Withington, Aric Arakaki, Jack Hoyt, Bruce & Linda Soll, Dave & Carolyn <br />Richardson, Margot McFedries, Beth Robinson, Ralph Galan, Joe Carvalho, Ted Matsuda. <br />Akoakoa Point (Bird Cave) <br />Joe will arrange dates with Aldridge for a walk thru sometime in early March and send it to interested persons. <br />Hapu'u Kapanaia <br />Pacific Plains and EWM/Anderson are willing to sell their land to the County <br />The County Council will hear a resolution soon to purchase these parcels. <br />Community groups are also seeking matching funding. <br />Halelua <br />The property owners will list some of the agriculturally zoned properties for sale. <br />The property that Ohau Heiau is on will be listed for sale. <br />We should ask Larry Brown from the planning department to explain the confusing trail maps on the proposed <br />grant of easement documents for the Vispassana property. <br />Kauhola Lighthouse <br />On January 15th, there was a marine resource management meeting. <br />People from around the island including staff from the DLNR <br />Vandalism problems like RAVE have happened on this property. <br />Upolu Airport - East end of the runway <br />The landowners are willing to put controlled vehicle access by the proposed parking lot. <br />A non-profit group may be considered for the control of the vehicle access gate. <br />The proposed parking lot will be 50' x 50' and graveled. <br />Will ask Larry Brown from planning department for the latest copy of the landowners proposed access plan. <br />Let's tell the action committee to hold the letter of recommendation for the access plan and not submit it to the <br />planning director. <br />We may help the landowner get SMA and/or conservation district permits to improve the lower portion of the <br />proposed access. <br />Kaiholena Lot F <br />The Ala Kahakai Trail association is still pursuing funding for public purchase. <br />Kiiokalani Ahupua'a (Black Point) <br />We should write a letter of recommendation supporting this access plan. <br />Kohala Kai <br />. <br />Margret Wille held a meeting with the landowners and their archeologist. <br />Margret plans to hold another meeting with this group to find a resolution. <br />The Ala Kaha Kai NPS has proposed to take responsibility of the Ala Loa from the Landowners. <br />The landowners' attorneys are still reviewing the proposal and have not made a decision. <br />Access Group Interfacing with the Action Committee and the County <br />We are still editing a plan to send to the action committee. <br />New Items <br />Moku ahupua'a is a Hawaiian cultural and preservation program. <br />Ahumoku is a preservation of our natural resources, and will be coordinated for each island and each district. <br />This group will report to the program advisors, DLNR and West Pac. <br />· <br />There are legislative bills acts 212 & act 218 which are creating a policy to make recommendations. <br />Grants of easements from Larry Brown of the planning department. <br />GOE for Old Halaula Mill road is out for public comment. <br />GOE for Ainakea Makai (Charlie Anderson) is out for public comment <br />We will send the GOE's out with the notes. <br />Next Meeting <br />Wednesday March 5, 2014, 4:30pm in the Old courthouse. <br />
