<br /> <br />1 <br />SOUTH KOHALA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN ACTION COMMITTEE <br />2 <br />aka HUI KULEANA O KOHALA HEMA <br />3 <br />southkohalacommunitydevelopmentplanactioncommittee@gmail.com <br />County of Hawai‘i <br />4 <br />MINUTES <br />5 <br />Meeting Date: February 24,02014 <br />6 <br />Call to Order: 5:05 pm <br />7 <br />Place: Banjy’s Paradise Bar & Grill <br />8 <br />68-1792 Melia St. <br />9 <br />Waikoloa, Hawai‘i 96738 <br />10 <br />Roll Call: <br />11 <br /> <br />1Members Present: Josephine (Jojo) Tanimoto, John Hoover, Christopher (Kit) Roehrig, <br />12 <br />Joel Cohen, John Mueller <br />13 <br /> <br />2Absent/Excused: Roger Harris <br />14 <br /> <br />3Planning Department: Deanne Bugado <br />15 <br /> <br />4County of Hawai‘i: Dave Hirt, Ryan Quitoriamo (DWS) <br />16 <br /> <br />5 <br />Public in attendance: Kaena Peterson, George Robertson, Jim Albone, Chris Gaughen, <br />17 <br />Cindy Kester, Sherm Warner, Linda Hunt, Lee Jeffers, Jim MCann, Diane Kanealii, Jenn <br />18 <br /> <br />Lai, Roger Kanealii, Gunner Mench, Gail Byrne Baber <br />19 <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC REGARDING ITEMS ON AGENDA <br />20 <br />George Robertson – gave the AC an update on the sewer system studies being done with the University <br />21 <br />for what scientific advances could be utilized in the Puako area on individual sewer systems. <br />22 <br />Diane Kanealii – Asking for support for the Kawaihae Community Center that is on the CIP list and <br />23 <br />provided the AC with an update on the fencing being put in around the area. <br />24 <br />Questions directed at Dave Hirt regarding suggestions for how the community and AC could <br />25 <br />support the funding of CIP projects. <br />26 <br />Gunner Mench – let the AC know that as chair of the South Kohala Traffic Safety Committee and a <br />27 <br />member of the Hawai‘i County Highway Safety Council his is available to answer any questions. <br />28 <br />PRESENTATIONS <br /> <br />29 <br /> <br /> <br />Gail Byrne Baber, a Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Commissioner, <br />30 <br />provide the AC with an update of the purpose of the Committee and activities of the Commission <br />31 <br />and encouraged them to identify and recommend to the Commission parcels within the South <br />32 <br />Kohala District for purchase by the County. <br />33 <br /> <br /> <br />Ryan Quitoriamo, with the Department of Water Supply, provided the AC with a status of water <br />34 <br />resources and water availability within the South Kohala District. One of the two reservoirs in the <br />35 <br />Waimea area is still damaged and un-usable from the 2007 earthquake, which impacts on the water <br />36 <br />availability for the area. There are private water systems that are being developed that are not <br />37 <br />feeding into the county’s water system. Suggestion made to increase communication to the <br />38 <br />community to inform them on current water situations. Complaints/Concerns/Issues can be <br />39 <br />submitted to their County Mayor’s Office, Letter of concern to district manager, or testimony can <br />40 <br />be made at their board hearings <br />41 <br />Page 1 of 3 <br /> <br />
