<br />LEEWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />MARCH 17, 2016 <br /> <br />The Leeward Planning Commission met in regular session at 9:30 a.m. in the West Hawai‘i <br />Civic Center, Community Center, Building G, 74-5044 Ane Keohokālole Highway, <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, with Chairman Brandi Beaudet presiding. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Brandi Beaudet, Thomas Whittemore, Collin Kaholo, <br />Sonny Shimaoka and Keith Unger <br /> <br />ABSENT AND EXCUSED: Scott Church and Barbara Nobriga <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Danny Patel (Counsel for the Commission), Duane Kanuha, (Planning <br />Director), Jeff Darrow (Planner), Maija Jackson (Planner), Christian Kay (Planner) and <br />Noriko Sauer (Commission Secretary) <br /> <br /> <br />And approximately 14 people from the public in attendance. <br /> <br />A quorum was present. Chair Beaudet called the meeting to order, and introduced the <br />Commissioners to members of the public. He also announced that Agenda Item No. 3, Ocean <br />Villas at Kahalu‘u Bay, LLC (SMA 16-063), was postponed until the next meeting of April 21, <br />2016. <br /> <br />ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS <br /> <br />1.Election of Officers for the remainder of Calendar Year 2016 <br /> <br />The Commission took up this item out of order at 9:31 a.m. Commissioner Whittemore <br />nominated Commissioners Unger and Kaholo as chairman and vice chairman, respectively. <br />With a second by Commissioner Shimaoka and an affirmative voice vote of all in attendance, <br />Commissioner Unger accepted the chairmanship for the remainder of the year. Also with a <br />second by Commissioner Shimaoka and an affirmative voice vote of all in attendance, <br />Commissioner Kaholo accepted the position as vice chairman. Chair Beaudet said that they <br />would assume their respective positions at the next meeting. <br /> <br />Chair Beaudet made an announcement that this was Commissioner Whittemore’s last meeting as <br />his 90-day holdover period would end this month. He expressed his appreciation to <br />Commissioner Whittemore. Director Kanuha on behalf of Planning Department staff also <br />thanked him for his service to the community. Commissioner Whittemore was presented with a <br />maile lei and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Mayor. He returned his gratitude to the <br />Commissioners and staff for their support in the past five years. <br /> <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC – No statements were presented under this section of the <br />agenda. <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
